Uses
- Map e-mail addresses to user accounts (see "Add User" to create a new login)
- Forward e-mail destined for one e-mail address on your domain to another e-mail account
- Enable/disable an e-mail address without deleting the address
- Re-enable an e-mail account after a user has gone over his/her allocated disk quota
Mailbox Types
There are three classes of e-mail addresses within the control panel: virtual mailboxes (V), aliases (A), and programs (P). Programs are rarely used and created via Mailing_Lists. We will concern ourselves with virtual mailboxes and aliases.
Virtual Mailboxes
A virtual mailbox acts as the final destination for an e-mail address by mapping to a physical user account on the server. Although the name may sound confusing, these are the final delivery targets. The etymology of virtual stems from how Postfix handles delivery to multiple domains through its virtual delivery agent.
Aliases
Aliases do not act as the final destination for an e-mail address, but instead they redirect to one or more e-mail addresses which may or may not be a final destination. The aliases may forward to another alias, which in turn forwards to another alias, and so on. An example would be the e-mail address msaladna@apisnetworks.com setup as an alias to forward to msaladna@apnscp.com. Within the control panel for apnscp.com, msaladna@apnscp.com could be setup as a forward to msaladna@gmail.com or it could be setup to map to a virtual mailbox, thereby acting as the final destination.
Programs/Miscellaneous
Action Legend

- Enable or disable an e-mail address. Each server periodically checks user accounts every night to ensure all e-mail accounts are within their disk quota allocation. If a user remains over his disk quota for more than five days, then the server automatically disables the e-mail account. E-mail is undeliverable to the user once the user goes over quota.

- Delete an e-mail address from mailbox routes. This will only remove the e-mail address from the lookup table. The mailbox assigned to the address will remain untouched.

- Toggle edit box for e-mail address. An e-mail address may be renamed or its mailbox may be changed without deleting the e-mail address. If the edit attempt fails (e.g. duplicate e-mail address), then the old address will remain in the lookup table.
