Introduction

New to your hosting account? Want to learn what you can do with it fully? The getting started guide is an excellent resource for discussing some more advanced in-depth concepts for users. Whether you're a power user or just a casual user, this guide should provide useful information for everyone. So long as your account type meets the basic prerequisites, the servers have the potential enabled to make use with everything listed here.

Important: Most of the advanced features do require SSH-2 access (shell access) found on Basic and higher packages.

Back to Basics

Here is a common list of things to know once you setup your account under apnscp esprit. The login location to apnscp esprit varies based upon the server that you're on, but it always follows the form https://beta.cp.'''servername'''.apisnetworks.com/ where servername is the server that you are on. This is included in the welcome e-mail in the Domain Preview field.

  1. Is this a fresh account?
    • Yes? Delete the catch-all alias. This helps prevent spam from piling up in your main inbox.
    • No? Ensure that you have setup all the e-mail accounts on your new account with us and add any corresponding aliases. Once done, drop the catch-all alias.
    Why drop the catch-all alias?
The catch-all redirects any e-mails sent to a non-existent user account on the server (i.e., one created explicitly via "Add User") to the destination defined in the alias. By default, this is your primary username, i.e. the value furnished upon sign-up. Failure to monitor this account, as most users are guilty of doing, can lead to spam piling up on the server. A catch-all is useful if you're migrating hosts over to us and forgot to setup all the e-mail accounts on the new server. From there you can gradually inspect the e-mails that come in and create aliases or new e-mail accounts for those users omitted.
  2. Want to add a subdomain?
    • Concrete: Don't let the name fool you. A concrete subdomain is one that works off a user account. For example, if you add a user called "foo" and tick the subdomain option, this now creates http://foo.yourdomain.com/.
    • Virtual: In stark contrast to a concrete subdomain, a virtual subdomain does not rely on a new user account. Instead, it can be located anywhere under /var/www/ and owned by any user. These are created via the Add Subdomain link in the control panel.
  3. Want to host multiple domains off your account?
    • apnscp esprit has a brand new feature called "Multiple Domain Manager". You can find this option under "Site Tools".
  4. Looking for some exciting new applications to install on your site?
    • Use the One-Click Install link to select from an existing list of pre-configured software ready to install right out of the box. Just fill in a couple bits of information and you're off to the races. Data required varies from one-click to one-click.
  5. Want to get even more out of your hosting?
    • Are you a competent programmer?
      • Yes?
        What is Samurize?
Glad you asked! Samurize is an advanced system monitoring and desktop enhancement engine for Windows 2000/XP/2003. Think of it as GKrellM, but for Windows. Setup a meter, plug in a command output, and you are off to the races. Don't worry though, we have a bunch of helpful meters already packaged with our example ;).
      • No? That's all right. There's still a lot of other fun things that you can play around with.
  6. Getting e-mails returned to an address on your account that you never sent an e-mail to?
    • This is caused by joe-jobbing, a process that attempts to tarnish an innocent third-party (such as yourself) by imitating that it came from you. MTAs pick this information up from the FROM header and unknowingly return it back to you, even if you never sent it. A great way to mitigate this type of attack is to setup an SPF record through our SPF Wizard.
